Mistrial or not, Kyle Rittenhouse is going to walk away free in the end.
He might even be out right now.
As I’m writing this, the verdict for his trial — which might as well be a Monopoly “Get Out of Jail Free” card from Judge Bruce Schroeder’s pocket — could be handed out seconds after this is published.
If I’m wrong, I’ll be happy to be wrong.
No one I’ve spoken with thinks I’m wrong. They only hope I am. Faintly.
The white people who think Rittenhouse is guilty have already braced themselves, ready for their crazy co-workers and family to start dancing in the streets.
I stopped fighting my cynicism when Schroeder actually dismissed the notion of the prosecution zooming in on digital images for clarity. He preferred “virginal” images.
I have a feeling Schroeder was equally dismissive of the then-new technology of binoculars back when he started his career in the 1830's.
So even my friends who think Rittenhouse is no angel think he’s getting off without a scratch solely on a defense based on Jimbo Kern from “South Park.”
